Parks & Recreation Update

The Parks and Recreation Department again is providing an extended pool season at four regional pools to provide additional opportunities for fitness and fun as the weather gets warmer.

Lincoln Pool in District 2, Heritage in District 4, Woodlawn in District 7, and Lady Bird Johnson in District 10 opened on Saturday, May 3rd, with 1,200 visitors using the pools on opening day alone.

These four pools offer open swim on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and Saturday from 1:00pm to 7:00pm. Lap swimming is available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:30am-9:30am. Admission is free.

For the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, the four regional pools will be open Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, May 24th – 26th, from 1:00pm – 7:00pm.

Swim season gets into full swing when all 24 outdoor pools open on Saturday, June 14th.

Standard pool hours are Tuesday – Sunday from 1:00pm to 7:00pm. In an effort to provide more time during the evening hours for working families, five pools are open from 2:00pm to 8:00pm.

Senior swim time, targeted for adults 60 years of age or older, is offered at San Pedro Pool from Tuesday through Friday each week from 1:30pm to 2:00pm.

Finally, to draw attention to water safety, the Parks and Recreation Department participates in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, an international event hosted by several organizations including the National Recreation & Parks Association. This year’s event will be held on June 20th. Free swimming lessons will be offered at nine pool locations as part of an attempt to make the Guinness Book of World Records.
